CSI New York: Catching Up with Melina Kanakeredes and Executive Producer Peter Lenkov
Fans are indeed buzzing about the recent revelation about Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) and Lindsay (Anna Belknap) having a child. In fact, executive producer Peter Lenkov admitted to CSI Files that “the idea of a baby felt very organic, and would allow for us to develop these characters even further. I think we all want to see these characters grow and mature, and this felt right.”
As for those who want a little drama in the form of Danny’s other love interest, Rikki, Lenkov says that “The storyline did indeed change [because of the pregnancy] but don't write off Rikki just yet.”
Moreover, don’t expect some flowery happy ending for Danny and Lindsay especially as the baby comes around because Lenkov warns, “What’s drama without drama? I believe it will be the first [baby] for the franchise, and our heroes will just have to juggle parenthood and their jobs. It'll be fun to write... and watch.”
Lenkov adds that “everyone has some meaty stuff this season. We're really focused on character this season.”
As for specifics, he says that "If you like Samantha, then you're in for a treat. She's back, and her storyline is great...We're [also] spending a few exploring [Dr. Hawkes] (Hill Harper) life before CSI. We're all very excited about where his character goes this season."
The executive producer also adds that “We're leaving no one behind, and no loose ends. We have multiple arcs involving all our characters, and you can be certain none of what we're writing is predictable. We're telling stories a bit differently this season. We've earned the right to stretch creatively, so we're making the most of that by making every episode an event.”
Meanwhile, Melina Kanakaredes, who plays Stella Bonasera on the show, recently appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, where she talked about filming the scene from the season premiere, in which she was hanging from a seven-floor building.
"I was really doing that," she admitted. "There's a harness on me that you couldn't see [because] they erased the wires. But it was so cool. I actually e-mailed a photo to my husband from the iPhone, and then the response was, 'Are you crazy? We've got two children, get down!'”
If Kanakaredes found that exhilarating, fans should catch the next episode of CSI: New York on October 22 at 10pm.
