'CSI: NY' Video Game Gets Gamer Further Into the Show
Tonight marks the 100th episode of CSI: NY, and we cannot stress further that it's an achievement in a very crowded entertainment world. You know what I said about it last week. Anyway, yesterday also marked the launch of the first ever video game inspired by the television series, named, well, CSI: NY—The Game.
Games based on the CSI franchise aren't a new thing. You probably have a copy of some of them; the first game, based on the original CSI, was released in 2003. Since then, four other games have been released, with three more for the original series, and CSI: Miami getting its own in 2004. Each game is pretty much the same; players are paired up with members of the respective show's team and solve around five cases together. It's had mixed results, but the recipe's been the same, until now. For the first time, players can play as the hit CBS series' characters themselves. So if you feel like being Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) or Stella Bonasera (Melina Kanakaredes), you can do so.
“In creating CSI: NY—The Game, it was vital for us to remain true to the television show as much as possible,” Tony Key, a senior executive for game developers Ubisoft, said. “We are delighted to have all of the show's leading actors in the video game to further solidify the game's faithfulness to the television series.”
Yes, you heard him right: the show's entire cast have come on board to provide their voices and likeness to the game. And just to make the game a little more like the television show, CSI: NY's writers provided cases exclusively for the video game, so you get that gritty, blue-ish feel that only watching CSI: NY provides. The game also looks and plays different: it looks a lot like a graphic novel, and interrogations are totally interactive, which means how you ask the questions can affect how the case turns out.
The game was released in stores just yesterday, and is currently available only for PC owners, but I'm sure it'll hit all those other platforms soon. If you can't get it yet, you can always wait by watching the series: tonight, we see Mac Taylor and his team pursue a killer that goes after people named Mac Taylor. The way that sounds, things might get a little confusing, but it's some way of celebrating episode number 100. That's on CBS tonight from 10pm ET.
