Petersen Hints on 'CSI' Movie
After the worldwide box office success of the movie version of Sex and the City, plus persistent rumors of a Friends movie in the works, perhaps it's inevitable that the currently the biggest show in the world would be a highly candidate. The ninth season premiere of CSI was able to show that the CBS procedural isn't only keen on forensics and special effects, it is also capable of pulling drama when it choose to. According to CSI fans, Grissom's (William Petersen) at the end of For Warrick deserved at least a second glance from the Emmy people, something they didn't give him this last season.
For his part, despite revealing that it is going to be his final ten episodes on CSI, Petersen is still able to lure in viewers (with some fans vowing to not watch a Grissom-less CSI when Laurence Fishburne takes over). Some time ago, Petersen revealed that there had been talks to turn the blockbuster series into a hopefully blockbuster film for years.
"I'd love to see us make a CSI film,” he said. “That's the reason Grissom isn't going to die of a brain tumor.”
However, Petersen was quick to caution against hoping to see Grissom, Sidle, Warrick, and the rest of the gang on the big screen soon. According to him, it would be “good” if they are able to do the film “right” as the show is at the very least known in most parts of the globe. On the other hand, he said he doesn't want the potential CSI film to just be “an extended episode.” If we remember, this is a common criticism against franchises that dare move from television to the big screen. Most of the time it ends up just being a very long episode.
