'CSI: Miami' Star Spearheads Cancer Awareness Campaign
Just three days after the memorable collaboration of an all-star female group for the benefit of a cancer awareness campaign, CSI: Miami star Eva La Rue is at the forefront of a campaign of her own called Eva's Divas, the newest educational initiative of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. The NOCC is a group that aims to “empower and educate women nationawide about the symptons and risk factors” of ovarian cancer.
La Rue will host the red carpet event to launch the campaign that will feature survivors, friends, and family who, at some point of their lives, had to deal with the debilitating effect of ovarian cancer. The star of CSI: Miami is also the spokesperson for the group. La Rue, 41, lost both her grandmother and great-grandmother to the disease, which kills 15,000 women every year.
"Since there is no screening test for ovarian cancer, it is crucial that women take charge of their reproductive health by educating themselves about the disease and learning how to broach this important topic with their physician, especially if they have a family history of ovarian, breast or colon cancer," according to La Rue.
"By encouraging women to be proactive, pay attention to their bodies and to educate one another through their strong networks of friends, family and acquaintances, together we can make a difference in increasing the low survival rate of ovarian cancer."
The Puerto Rico-native plays DNA analyst Natalia Boa Vista on CSI: Miami. At the end of the fourth season, it was revealed that she was an FBI informant in the lab who was trying to build a case against Horatio Caine (David Caruso) and his team.
CSI: Miami returns this September 22, 10pm. Last time on the show, someone shot Caine on an airport tarmac.
