CSI: Miami: Previewing Episode 7.20 "Wolfe in Sheep's Clothing"
Oh, damn, again, I absolutely did not see that coming. Well, sure, I knew that on this week's CSI: Miami, Ryan (Jonathan Togo) finds himself kidnapped, but a part of me insists I should've pieced the puzzle together earlier. There's a Russian mob—I should've known it's Ivan Sarnoff, and nobody else. I should've remembered the events of episodes past, when Horatio (David Caruso) busted Ivan's scheme to rig horse races so he can get the big bucks. I should've kept his threat in mind while watching all the episodes that came after, although we didn't obviously see anything suspicious in the background. And, while the twists of last week's case were a little too convoluting for me to handle on the first try… okay. Breathe.
Personally, though, it's good to see Ryan finally get the spotlight. I've been watching the folks at Miami in varying degrees over its seven-year run, and for the most part he's remained in the background. We've seen Horatio deal with stuff, and Calleigh (Emily Procter) already fell in love with Delko (Adam Rodriguez), but Ryan? Sure, a few things have happened to him, but personally he hasn't been that much of a crucial part, more so this season. A kidnapping should shake things up.
And shake up it did. Just as the team realized the gravity of Ivan's threat before—all the photographs, all the photographs, and I'll insist, all the photographs—the paranoia spikes up. A gun is pulled out, a suspect is killed, an almost-shootout ensues, and clueless Ryan disappears from the team's radar. I didn't exactly fall off my seat, but to be honest he's not the person I expected them to take, not at that point—note that, while I knew Ryan will be kidnapped, I didn't realize it would happen this way, or this early—and it leaves me to wonder: why?
Ryan's the emotional dude, and that could come into play in tonight's CSI: Miami. The mob's got a boy's life in their hands, and in order to save the poor kid, he's got to make the hardest choice ever—betray Horatio and the team. It's a race for something, tonight from 10pm on CBS. Only three photos on this week's slideshow, but all the same, it's right below.
